In preparation for Singapore

In a round a month’s time, I’ll be touching down in a airplane in Singapore. I’ve been doing some Googling for my trip to Singapore, checking out where Antti & Ile live and where Orchard Road and the famous Raffles Hotel is. I’m really stoked about the trip, it’s been quite a while since I’ve been somewhere as new and interesting as Singapore (you can’t really count my trip to the Canary Islands in January as ‘new and exciting’ since it was neither).

Google Maps has been a tremendous help in mapping out the city. As you can see in the embedded map below, I’ve bookmarked a few places of interested and will update it further as I find more things that I’d like to check out. I’ll be sure to bookmark a few particular places to eat since I’m pretty sure Singapore has a plethora of restaurants that I’m going to fall in love with.

We’ll be staying at Antti’s and Ile’s place (as long as they tolerate us), which is a few kilometers from the city centre. It’s in walking distance of course but since there’s so much to see in Singapore, we’ll probably be taking the MRT-trains that network the city.

Since we have two weeks time to see Singapore and the surrounding areas, we’ve been thinking with Ville that an excursion to Kuala Lumpur might be in order during the stay. And since Singapore is situated at the tip of the Malay Peninsula and is in fact only around 30 km in diameter, it doesn’t take long to reach the border.

Singapore-Kuala Lumpur takes 6 hours on one of two modern daytime trains or 8 hours on a time-effective overnight sleeper train, from just $9 or £5 one-way. (via)

So it seems we’ll be visiting at least KL while over there. Bali would be another cool place to visit but it’s pretty far away in comparison to Malaysia and two weeks isn’t a particularly long time. I have a few friends that are also going to Singapore; they’re staying a little longer than we are though.

The weather in Singapore at the moment looks pretty sweet; highs of 30° and lows of 25°. I doubt it’s going to change much, just hope that it doesn’t rain too much. Not exactly horrible weather for the current time of year :)

I’m pretty excited about the whole trip, I have a feeling it’s going to be one hell of a trip.
