Kuala Lumpur: Day 2

Our second and last day in KL didn’t start off as well as we’d hoped. First off, we had some slight problems with the hotel staff about the price of the rooms. it seemed the man behind the desk tried to charge an extra 50 Ringgits for one of our rooms. It’s not much but it was more the principle. It also started raining pretty much as soon as we had checked out. We took a cab to the Petronas Towers, discovering that we’d paid double for the same trip the previous day.

Even though it was 08:45, there was already a rather handsome queue of people waiting for tickets. Petronas don’t charge anything for going up to visit the Skybridge but there are only a certain amount of tickets available. It seemed we were not going to have time to go up to the bridge as the queue was still rather long and we needed to be at the bus station at 10:30. But with a little negotiation we were able to skip the queue. The “tour” began with a 3D movie about the towers and Petronas as a company. We then took a 30 second elevator ride up to 170 meters on the 41st floor. What a view! Despote the weather being a little crap, you could see pretty far. One of the employees said the towers house some 12000 people, of which Petronas’ employees take up tower 1 and 60% of tower 2. The remaining 40% is comprised of around 70 different companies.

Our bus was delayed by nearly an hour, which made Olli and Kosti a little nervous since they were flying onwards to Bali from Singapore. Ville and I didn’t have a schedule to keep to, so we decided to pass our time making fun of our travel companions’ dilemma. Fortunately the bus made up for the wait as it was super comfortable and made up for lost time by driving swiftly.
