Our 2 week long trip to Singapore is coming to a close and the remaining 30 hours we’ll be in transit. We left Singapore’s Changi Airport at 18:30 local time and took a 3 hour flight with Cathay Pacific Airways to the new Hong Kong International Airport. We were looking forward to flying with Cathay since they’ve been rated along side Singapore Airlines as one of the best airlines in the world; unfortunately we weren’t that impressed. The aircraft was a B747, one of those bubble-backed big Boeings. The service was great but we were disappointed as apparently we were supposed to fly in a brand new Airbus A340.

Up ’til now, the Finnair flight to Mumbai made the biggest impression on me. But unfortunately our connecting flight back to Helsinki from here in Hong Kong is on a McDonnell Douglas MD-11; the oldest, most horrible aircraft in the Finnair fleet. So it’ll be over 10 hours of pure pain and suffering. I’m keeping my fingers crossed Finnair have swapped our plane for an Airbus.
But until then, we’ve got 9 hours left to kill here (from our original 12) at the Hong Kong Airport. We checked into a Traveller’s Lounge with Ville, paying a little under $50 (USD) for a 10 hour stay. The good thing is that there’s food and drink, and very comfortable sofas. We weren’t sure whether we wanted to go into town and have a look at Hong Kong, but since we got here at ten o’clock in the evening, we can’t be bothered.
I think I’ll put a movie on or something like that. This is Hong Kong, signing out.
