Looking back on 2007, it’s been an interesting year. New school, a few trips abroad as well as quite a bit of work. Thinking back, there are some things I’m not entirely satisfied with but they’re counterbalanced by some very cool events.
In January, I took a much needed vacation with a group of friends to the Canary Islands — as a sort of “let’s get the hell outta here for a week”-vacation. It was a rather interesting yet necessary experience (meaning I’ll probably never ever be returning to those islands). So after returning, school started. Haaga-Helia’s Computer Science Department was a step in the right direction in terms of what I wanted to study and maybe a better choice on the whole; the other being the Helsinki University’s Computer Science Department. And despite a few setbacks during the year (screwing up a few courses due to lack of motivation) it’s been a good experience.
Work wise, I continued working for X-Partner Helsinki until the end of the summer. Towards the end of the project, I decided to seek other work and found myself over at TietoEnator, problemsolving Sampo Pankki’s IT-related dilemmas. I had originally planned on working along side school but it proved to be too much to handle.
The autumn thus rushed by attending lectures at school and waiting for the winter holidays. My friends Antti ja Ilkka moved over to Singapore for the Fall, which gave me a great excuse to pack up my stuff and fly over to visit them for two weeks. Singapore was probably one of the highlights of the year — a great trip. The return back to dreary Finland wasn’t exactly a welcoming idea after two weeks of sun and +30° weather but it had to be done. I’m considering a comeback tour to Singapore (as in moving there and studying) but that depends on different variables.
This site has also seen some accidents (database crashes, I think twice) but also a rather impressive amount of traffic. Also spammers have had a field day with the comments; thankfully I have Akismet installed as a plugin that has been doing God’s work in terms of keeping the fuckers out:
Akismet has caught 1,246 spam for you since you first installed it.

Google Analytics claims over a thousand people visited my weblog and there were nearly 4500 pageviewes. That’s pretty impressive considering I just rant and rave about stuff I like :)
Coming Soon
This year is going to be interesting, especially for me. As you know, I went to a job interview around Christmas for a spot in a company that does Business simulations for corporations and institutions. The interview style caught me off guard but it seems I did well nevertheless as I got the job today. I’m not sure what my title will be (other than ‘Codemonkey’), but the job is programming Java and implementing it into web-languages. It’s so much more along the lines of what I’m studying, so I’m stoked.
Other than that, 2008 promises to be much of the same as last year. More work, more school, less free time. I will keep you posted and hopefully have more time to write, it’s been a rather fruitless last couple o’ months — writer’s block or something like that, I guess.
Have a good year.
