It seems my last post here has been over 3 weeks ago — shame on me. I have to confess that it has almost completely slipped my mind that I even had a blog, not to mention the fact that I should actually update the damn thing. So as the title to this post suggests, I am still alive and breathing. The last month has been so action-packed that I’ve hardly had a chance to read a blog, let alone write my own.
Mostly my time has been consumed by work, which has had me working pretty hard. The continuation of a previous project as well as some issues with old ones have taken a reasonable sized chunk out of my free time. Also, a newfound love interest has kept me fairly busy :)
Otherwise things are mostly how they’re supposed to be. Summer’s pretty much here and it’s already a sweltering 24°C, which is a real bitch at the office. But I’m not complaining, since in a couple of months it will be 7 months of “freeze-your-arse-off” again.
So all is well, no worries :)
Wordpress blesses us ‘bloggers’ with a new 2.5 update. The update is a rather big one, including lots of new features and fixes for old ones. The visually biggest new ‘feature’ is the complete overhaul of the Dashboard UI.
The improvements in 2.5 are numerous, and almost entirely a result of your feedback: multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, customizable dashboard, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, a WYSIWYG that doesn’t mess with your code, concurrent post editing protection, full-screen writing, and search that covers posts and pages.
All in all sounds sweet. I haven’t had a chance to peruse through the whole updated interface but from what I’ve noticed on the Post-page, the UI looks and feels very intuitive. The last version of Wordpress’ Post-page had a WYSIWYG editor that screwed up the html-code pretty royally. This latest version seems to have all the kinks ironed out, thankfully. I rarely use the WYSIWYG editor but along with version 2.5, there’s some cool features that help with adding different types of media to posts. Read about the full update here.
I’ve been updating my weblog rather scarcely of late, for which the primary reason has been work. I’ve been working at a company called Cesim, developing online business models for nearly 2 months now; it’s been great and also a very humbling experience as well, since I work with some very talented individuals. The following few weeks and then the remainder of the spring will occupy a significant part of my time, as I’m currently part of a small team working on a relatively big project. And with that said, I’ll try my best to update my journal as frequently as possible.
Besides work, my near-future plans are quite simple — (nearly) work myself to death, take a trip to Malta in March with the Parentals and possibly move to Singapore. Yeah, you read that correctly. “Disneyland with a death penalty”, Singapore. After my two week visit to Singapore last fall, I decided it might be a good idea to apply there. Singapore Management University, or SMU for short, is my target university in Singapore. It’s a very new school, built just a few years ago, which means everything is pretty much brand spanking new — yey! I’ve applied for the Information Systems Program but as a backup, I’ve listed Business Management as a second alternative. Just for kicks and giggles. The deadline is next week so after that. I’ll be hearing from them — hopefully.
So in reality, I haven’t been sitting on my proverbial backside. And so that’s what’s up.
