I’m sitting on my sofa at home watching Halo 3’s Matchmaking Lobby say “Information could not be retrieved from the Halo3 server”. It’s been like this for over 15 minutes now. The map says there’s 995,390 Gamers Online. That’s a lot. But it shouldn’t prevent me from getting online, seeing as Halo 3 has sold a shitload of copies (already 1,5 million pre-release). I’m eternally sorry guys but I just can’t shut up about Halo 3. It’s awesome!
I was supposed to go over some notes for tomorrow’s exam on Relational Database Management Systems (*yawn*), but instead I spent the entire evening playing Halo 3 online with my friend Kai; which totally rocked.
The thing is, my actual point wasn’t really to talk about Halo 3 but more about how Web 2.0 it is. Bungie has put a hell of a lot of time and effort into making Halo 3 incredible. There’s a feature in Halo 3 called Theater, which automatically saves 25 of your most recent gameplays onto your Xbox 360; be it single or multiplayer. All this can be played back from the Theater. Then, if you see a moment in the game that just blows your mind or you’ve just annihilated 4 guys with a rocket launcher online, you can stop the video, pan the camera out and take a screenshot. Hell, you can even make a video clip of the video clip you’re watching!
The best thing about this is that the game automatically uploads your screenshots to Bungie.net, where if you’ve created an account, you can click through your images. Even save them on your own computer and upload them to the Internets. All in Hi-Def, baby! You can also share the screenshots and videos you’ve made through the File Share feature of the game. I mean talk about value for money.
Bungie, we love you.
